Gianyar, Bali - Sarana Daun Hijau is taking innovative steps to work together with other farms in its local community. SDH’s farm in Gianyar is reusing water from a neighbouring fish farm to irrigate its crops and the results are impressive.

By reusing the water waste from the fish farm, SDH conserves a valuable resource that benefits their farm holistically because it improves the health and longevity of their soil quality and reduces their dependency to  access the local natural resources which could be limited or easily contaminated without warning. Rich in nutrients and minerals, the water waste from the fish farm is also an effective fertiliser that helps promote healthy plant growth, leading to increased yields and improved quality of the crops.

According to Roger Pho, SDH's CMO, who is passionate about sustainable agriculture, "We believe that we have to work collaboratively with our neighbouring farms so that we can develop a habit of being interdependent as a local community. Tapping into their water waste and recycling it as a water resource for our farm is a win-win-win situation for everyone. We must also be conservative in how we access our natural resources as a community and give the other farmers enough spring water that can sometimes be limited during certain seasons.”

Roger adds on to emphasise SDH’s value proposition “Our farm in Gianyar is a prime example of how the local community can synergise more by sharing their resources that are by others, deemed as waste but recyclable and reusable to some others. This water management solution is just one of many sustainable initiatives that we are undertaking to improve our accountability in being responsible for our operational production and consumption as a company. We hope to inspire more businesses to work responsibly and symbiotically with their community to create a better and sustainable future for all.”
